The Strasbourg Historical Museum is located in Strasbourg, in the Bas-Rhin department of France, in the Renaissance building of the former slaughterhouse known as the Grande Boucherie. Founded in 1920, the museum occupies a building constructed between 1586 and 1588 and classified as a historical monument. It is dedicated to the history of Strasbourg from the early Middle Ages to the contemporary period.
After twenty years of closure for works, the museum reopened on 30 June 2007. Under Monique Fuchs, it was directed to present the history of Strasbourg until 1800, and a second section opened on 16 November 2013 covering the Napoleonic period to the present day. The reopening was completed at the end of 2013 with all rooms open to the public.
The collections present the political, economic, and social history of Strasbourg through military objects, clothing, paintings, drawings, sculptures, and other objects from the Middle Ages to the 18th century. Among the holdings are a relief map dating from 1727 and numerous exhibits donated by citizens of Strasbourg and the rest of Alsace.

Under Monique Fuchs, it presented the history of Strasbourg up to 1800. A second section opened on 16 November 2013, extending the narrative from the Napoleonic period to the present day. The collections on display include 1,650 items from the museum's total holdings of 200,000 objects. Among the notable pieces is a relief map dating from 1727, representing Strasbourg and its surroundings at 1/600th scale and covering nearly 80 square meters. The museum also houses numerous exhibits and collections that were mostly donated by the citizens of Strasbourg and the rest of Alsace. Its military collection includes around 160 uniforms and documents. In addition, the holdings include contributions from European institutes in Strasbourg, such as the Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights, including the judicial robe of Jean-Paul Costa, former President of the European Court of Human Rights.
