Hôtel Costes

Hôtel Costes is a 5-star Parisian hotel with 84 rooms, founded by Jean-Louis and Gilbert Costes. The brothers, born in the 1950s, arrived in Paris during their adolescence in the 1960s and began working as servers before opening Café Costes in the Halles district, decorated by Philippe Starck. They later bought the former France and Choiseul hotel, previously owned by businessman Claude Dray, and transformed it into Hôtel Costes, which opened in 1995. The hotel was redesigned with Klay Robson and later received its official five-star rating from Atout France on July 1, 2013. Its decoration, commissioned to architect and decorator Jacques Garcia, is considered emblematic of the place. The hotel includes a terrace and a spa, and DJ Stéphane Pompougnac created its lounge musical ambiance. Hôtel Costes developed as a very luxurious establishment and became popular with celebrities, while also commercializing its name through derivative products and publishing Palace Costes magazine.

Jean-Louis and Gilbert Costes in Paris

Jean-Louis and Gilbert Costes were born in the 1950s and arrived in Paris during their adolescence in the 1960s. They began working as servers in the city before opening Café Costes in the Halles district, which was decorated by Philippe Starck. They later opened successive establishments in Paris with particular attention to decoration. The family background also included a gastronomic restaurant in the Aubrac region, owned by the family of Marie-Josèphe.

Transformation and Expansion of Hotel Costes

Hotel Costes was created in the 1990s when Elements historiques purchased the France and Choiseul hotel, previously owned by businessman Claude Dray, and transformed it into the Hotel Costes. The hotel opened in 1995 and was redesigned with Klay Robson, a developer and construction consultant. Its decoration was commissioned to architect and decorator Jacques Garcia, and this design became emblematic of the place, as noted by L'Express and Libération. Over time, Hotel Costes grew into a very luxurious establishment and became popular with celebrities. Vanessa Paradis and Johnny Depp met there, while Pierre Lescure, Madonna, and Sharon Stone frequented the hotel restaurant. Monica Bellucci and Sharon Stone also used the basement pool until 2012. The hotel further built its image through Palace Costes magazine, distributed under the artistic direction of Claude Maggiori, and through branded derivative products including chocolates, perfume by Olivia Giacobetti, Roses Costes Dani Roses, liqueur, scented candles, watches, luggage, and music records. It received an official five-star rating from Atout France on July 1, 2013. In 2015, it acquired the Hotel Le Lotti to expand and create a larger entrance on rue de Castiglione, with Christian Liaigre decorating the new wing, and later acquired a third hotel on rue du Mont Thabor to continue its expansion.

Htel Costes et les Arts

Htel Costes et les Arts is associated with a series of lounge music compilations released by Pschent since 1999. The compilations are signed by DJ Stephane Pompougnac, who has worked with Jean-Louis Costes since 1997. The first volume was named after the former Htel France and Choiseul. By the fourth volume, the series had earned two gold records, with total copies sold reported in 2001, and it later reached one million copies sold after 2001. In addition to its musical profile, Htel Costes et les Arts hosted several exhibitions by artist Louise Tilleke between 2015 and 2018.
