Hôpital Cochin is a hospital of Assistance publique - hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) in Paris, located at 27 rue du Faubourg-Saint-Jacques. It depends on the faculty of medicine of Université Paris-Cité. The hospital traces its origins to 1780, when Jean-Denis Cochin, curé of the Saint-Jacques-du-Haut-Pas parish, created hospice Saint-Jacques for the poor and workers of the neighborhood. He financed a small establishment of about forty beds with his personal fortune and parishioners’ charity. The institution expanded throughout the 18th century and later developed into a larger hospital complex. In 1902, its establishments merged with hôpital Ricord, and the site also annexed several related institutions over time. The buildings were reconstructed between 1908 and 1926 in a pavilion model made of bricks. Today, the Cochin hospital group includes Hôpital Cochin, which employs thousands of healthcare workers and more than a thousand doctors. Since the 1980s, it has also been associated with the Institut Cochin, a biomedical research institute.

Location and institutional role
Hopital Cochin is a hospital of Assistance publique - hopitaux de Paris (AP-HP) in Paris. It is located at 27 rue du Faubourg-Saint-Jacques. The hospital also depends on the faculty of medicine of Universite Paris-Cite, linking it to the city's medical education system.
From Parish Hospice to University Hospital Group
Histoire, now part of Hopital Cochin, began in 1780 when Jean-Denis Cochin, the cure of the Saint-Jacques-du-Haut-Pas parish, created the hospice Saint-Jacques. It was originally intended for the poor and workers of the neighborhood, and he established a small facility of about forty beds using his personal fortune and the charity of parishioners. The establishment expanded throughout the 18th century. In 1784, the part located at the corner of rue des Capucins and rue du Faubourg-Saint-Jacques was used as a hospital for adults with venereal diseases, and the hospital became known first as hopital des Capucins and later as hopital du Midi. The two establishments merged in 1902 with hopital Ricord, a venereal diseases hospital created in 1792. Histoire also annexed the maternite Port-Royal, the clinique Baudelocque, and hopital Tarnier. Its buildings were reconstructed between 1908 and 1926 in a pavilion model made of bricks. Today, the Cochin hospital group includes Histoire, which employs thousands of healthcare workers including more than a thousand doctors. Since the 1980s, it has been associated with the Institut Cochin, a biomedical research institute reorganized in 2002 as a mixed research structure in genetics, molecular biology, and cell biology. Histoire has also been linked to other hospital groupings, including Cochin - Saint-Vincent-de-Paul in the 1990s and the Groupe hospitalier hopitaux universitaires Paris-Centre in 2011. From 2019, it joined the new Universite Paris-Cite following the reform of Paris universities. The hospital also included the Paris major burns center.
Historical Connections and Protected Structures
H pital Cochin has been linked to several public and political events. In 2004, Maison de Solenn, an adolescent center named after Solenn Poivre d'Arvor, opened at the hospital with support from Bernadette Chirac. Jacques Chirac was also transported to H pital Cochin after a road accident in Correze for treatment, and he published a text there denouncing the UDF as the party of the foreigner, known as the Appel de Cochin. The hospital complex also includes several protected historical monument elements, including Porte Ricord, Fontaine des Capucins, various underground parts, and Puits des Capucins.
