The Musée Flaubert in Rouen is the Flaubert and History of Medicine museum, located in the birthplace of Gustave Flaubert in the former Hôtel-Dieu. It holds the labels Musée de France and Maisons des Illustres. The museum combines literary memory with the history of medicine through its preserved rooms and collections. On the ground floor, it displays a mannequin used for childbirth demonstrations designed by Angélique du Coudray, a bed for six people, a collection of two hundred medical ceramics, military field surgical kits, wrought iron grilles dating from 1775, and mummified heads by Laumonier de Bordier and Jourdain, agitators hanged in Rouen in 1789. On the first floor, it features the surgeon’s room where Gustave Flaubert was born, as well as an old sickroom adjacent to the apartment. The garden houses the monument to Gustave Flaubert, a high-relief by Henri-Michel-Antoine Chapu, which was inaugurated in 1890 and moved to this site in 1982 from the facade of the Rouen Museum of Fine Arts.
